I am writing to urge you to vote NO on SB132, a bill that would devastate Alabama’s thriving hemp industry, eliminating thousands of jobs, hurting farmers, and cutting off vital relief for patients in need.
Hemp-derived cannabinoids have been a lifeline for cancer patients, veterans, and those suffering from chronic illnesses—especially given Alabama’s failed medical cannabis program, which has yet to open a single dispensary. Instead of expanding access, SB132 would criminalize a federally legal industry, pushing consumers toward unregulated and unsafe alternatives.
The 2018 Federal Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived cannabinoids, and SB132 goes against this progress, threatening small businesses and economic growth in our state.
I urge you to stand with patients, farmers, and small businesses by voting NO on SB132. Let’s focus on reasonable regulations, not outright prohibition.
